2 weeks in

Before I say anything about what I have been up to, I'd like to congratulate myself on making a stir fry tonight.  I stepped away from the PB&J route (which I have had for the last 6 or so meals) and made a stir fry with brown rice…and it was wonderful.

SO the past two weeks have been a lot of fun, despite the weather.  I thought I was coming during summer but I was not aware that this is the rainy season.  And to date, I think I have seen the sunshine for only 2 days.  Oh well, at least it's a warm rain!

We had orientation week for my apartment complex last week!  We got to do all of the night events but because of the rain, a lot of the things they had planned for the day were cancelled.

We have been going to Melba's a lot…it's a bar in Surfer's Paradise with some pretty awesome deals.  The other night it was buy 2 meals and get $100 in drinks. So, we obviously took advantage of that.  We also went to Broadbeach on one of the days when the sun was out…it was a really cute spot but we had an awful experience at a little Mexican restaurant called Burrito Bar.  They were out of steak, guacamole, their wi-fi wasn't working, they didn't have any change, and they were almost out of margaritas.  A couple was looking at the menu deciding whether or not to eat there and I gave them the signal to find something else.  We were desperate for Mexican…and there isn't much here.

Besides doing things with the girls, school started this week.  I have 1 class Wednesday, 1 Thursday and 1 Friday.  They are 3 hours long which is a little brutal but I have a lot of free time with my schedule.  I'm in a popular fiction and mass culture class and so far it has been awesome.  The teacher is really funny and engaging.  That's about it…Rachel, Kirsty and I are going to Future Music Festival in Brisbane on Saturday so that will be fun.  There is a pretty awesome lineup… :)

a week in Sydney

We spent the past week in Sydney, which was amazing!
Pre-shuttle ride to Phoenix!

On the first day we were attempting to go to Paddington Market, which is a little street market in downtown Sydney.  We stopped and asked a man for directions and we headed in the way which he directed us.  Well…we ended up at PADDY'S Market…which was totally different.  It was a Chinese flea market.  We were so tired from the 24 hour travel day that we decided to just eat lunch there.  Not our best day…

The next day we went to the Opera House and got a tour.  It is beautiful inside and the little modern aspects of it really surprised me.  The cloth they use on their seats is a bright orange and all the of the carpet is purple, red and other bold colors.

We took a ferry ride around the harbor and it was breathtaking! The houses that are on the water are all so beautiful.

The weather the next few days wasn't great.  It rained off and on all day but we were still able to go to the beach.  We went to Bondi and Manly.  Manly was probably my favorite…we got drinks at a little bar with a really cute patio and great view of the ocean.

Our last night in Sydney we went to La Soiree at the Opera House.  It was a raunchy cirque du soleil type show…haha.  It was hilarious and so impressive!!  The theater we saw it in was small and intimate.  They told the audience to get up and get drinks at any point throughout the show.  It was very relaxed and so much fun.

We weren't allowed to take pictures once it started but this is a picture of inside of the theater.

I moved into my apartment yesterday and love it!! My roommates are all so sweet and helpful!
