finally saw some roos!

Yesterday Rachel and I took a little trip to Currumbin Wildlife Park. We got picked up from our apartment and took a bus with 15 other students. We honestly weren't extremely excited to go…sitting by the pool sounded like a more preferable way to spend my day. BUT we had already bought tickets and it was one of those "tourist must-dos".  So we got on the bus and I had about 3 bags of different types of snacks that I had assumed I'd eat throughout the day. Nope. Ate them all on the way there.

We got there at around 9:45am and the bus was coming back for us at 4:30pm…we knew it would be a long day and we didn't plan it out too well. Within the first hour we held a koala and got our pictures, fed the kangaroos, saw the crocodiles, pet an emu, attempted to see a Tasmanian devil…yep, we had done everything.  So we had a good 5 and a half hours to kill. We got some lunch (fish & chips!) and walked around a bit.  I saw a sign for ice cream that said $1.95…ummm STEAL!! So I order and the lady goes "$4.95 please!". They tricked me…part of the 4 had rubbed off and I never would have bought that ice cream if I had known it was $5. Oh well.

After we did the ropes course we had about 3 hours still…so we decided to go bully some kangaroos…

Poor kangaroos…

Here are some other pictures from our day at Currumbin:

So many sleepy Koalas!

The largest roo…I think he's half horse.

There's a baby in the pouch!

Pre-ropes course (NOT fun…way too hot in those suits!!)

Hoppin along...

Overall it was a pretty fun day and I'm glad we went.  I'm sure if we didn't go we would have regretted it.

We leave for New Zealand on Friday the 29th! We planned everything out so we should do fine but I'll keep ya posted…

quicksilver pro & future music festival

Wow, the past month has flown by so fast!  I remember my first day here was Valentines day!  Last weekend a big group of us went to Future Music Festival in Brisbane…and it was pouring…the whole day.  I managed to get my iphone wet (which is completely broken) and ruined my shorts, shoes and shirt.  Other than that, it was an awesome day.  I didn't want to take out my camera in fear of it breaking (the mud was up to my knees) but here's a video that someone took to show how muddy it was.

After the festival the 16 of us headed back to the hotel in a cab…which we completely ruined with mud.  We all took turns in the shower and ended up going out afterwards, and then slept with 16 people in one hotel room.  It was a little bit brutal, but we're all on a budget. The next day we decided we wanted McDonald's. Someone thought it was really close to our hotel so we started walking. Turns out it wasn't anywhere near our hotel and we walked about 2 miles with all of our luggage just for some fast food.

The weather is getting better day by day! I'm not sure if it has gone a whole day without raining yet but the rain hasn't started until 4 or so the past few days so we have been enjoying the pool while we can.

The Quicksilver Pro (a huge surfing competition) has been going on in Coolangatta at Snapper Rocks the past week and we went a few days ago.  It's probably my favorite beach so far!

Loungin on the beach!

It's been an awesome month and we just booked our mid-semester break trip to New Zealand!  We're going to try and travel around the north island for a week (skydiving perhaps?).

School has been pretty interesting so far. Today a huntsman spider was crawling around on the podium while our teacher was lecturing and I had a little freak out (if you don't know what a huntsman spider is, go look it up). I have a presentation in an hour so I better go!
